Gear up for the 5th annual trolley derby
King of the Hill: 2012 King of the Hill winner Logan Morrell
Do you think you have what it takes to be the ultimate trolley
derby champion? Is your craftsmanship unbeatable? Is your
kiwi ingenuity one of a kind?
Then why not enter the Black Gold Kai Club 'Off Your Trolley' Derby
and show the town what you are made of!
The Derby will be held on on Saturday October 5 from 10am until
4pm, and is a chance for some great prizes to be won! Simply build
yourself a trolley, and race against other competitors for your chance
Come along, enjoy a barbecue lunch then watch the fun begin.
Nothing beats standing in the forest listening for the rush of wheels,
seeing the smiles on the competitor's faces and the incredible
homemade trolleys flying by.
The derby is now in its fifth year, and came to fruition after
discussions within the Kai Club saw a need for a 'youth-orientated'
event. Young people got together and decided they wanted a trolley
race, and so it began!

development programme consultation

people got together and identified the
areas they wanted to explore. The BMX
track was one, and the Trolley Derby
.The 'Off your Trolley' derby is an
amazing family event, open for those
aged two and up.
King of the Hill - (fastest individual
time; 8 years plus)
Best Presented Trolley & Driver
Most Inventive Trolley;
Nippers: for drivers aged 2---7
Zoomers: for drivers aged 8---12
Sprinters: for drivers aged 13---15
Rockets: for drivers aged 16+
Team (3---6 participants)
Last year, The King of the Hill trophy
which is hotly contested was won by
local Logan Murrell. He received the
King of The Hill trophy, as well as a pack of donated goods. All
winners of each category also receive a bag of goodies kindly
donated by local businesses. This year, Whittakers Chocolate are on
board to ensure you even get your chocolate fix!
The races begin at 1pm sharp on Whites Rd in Kaitangata (beside Kai
Point Coal Screens).
There will be a $10 entry fee if entered by 27 September, and a $20
late entry fee.
Nippers are a gold coin entry for the short course.
Registrations and scrutineering for all trolleys and drivers is 10am to
12pm on the day. Practice runs 10:30am to 12pm for all drivers who
have passed scrutineering and registration.
