Off Your Trolley
Entries for the Black Gold Kai Club s Off Your
Trolley Derby have opened. The derby will be
held on October 5 from 1pm. Entry is $10 if
received before September 27 or $20 after
that date. Teams entry is $5 per person
(excluding nippers), or $10 late entry. For

club s Facebook page. There will be prizes for
King of the Hill (fastest individual time -- 8
years-plus), Best Presented Trolley and
Driver, Most Inventive Trolley, Nippers:
drivers 2-7 years, Zoomers: 8-12 years,
Sprinters: 13-15 years, Rockets: 16 years-plus.
The Owaka Indoor Bowls Sub-Association
team, comprising Katea, Paretai and
Waitepeka, had a successful time in in the
past week. On Saturday they won the 13s
competition at Balclutha and on Monday
evening they were also the winning sub-
association in the Super-8s with South and
West Otago zones. The 13s competition
involved 13 players in each team, with fours,
triples, pairs and singles were played. Colleen
Fenton was the top player on the day with 6
wins from 6 games.
July 13 sees the first jam session for the
winter at The Catlins Cafe. Bands are invited
to join Owaka band, Noise Complaint, from
7.30pm. Drums, guitars and bass will be
available or people could just perform a song. Bowlers aim for national glory

Trio fly South Otago
flag in North Island
South Otago indoor bowlers have a new
shine to their bowls.
Paretai's Stephen Preddy and Alanna
Preddy, along with Robert Wilson of
Hillend, are part of the South Island team
that will play a North Island team for the
Kevin Eddy Memorial Trophy in Rotorua
on August 17.
The event has been held since 1980 and
has been won by the North Island 22
times, compared to the South Island's 10.
Wilson will play in the pairs with Robert
Osborne, of Canterbury, while Stephen
will play in the triples with Michael
Lawson and Mathew Bassett, both of
Alanna will plan in the women's triples
with Marie-Therese Hooper, of Canter-
bury, and Caroline Braithwaite, of
Stephen said he was ''pretty stoked''.
''It is pretty good to get South Otago back
in it [the team].
''To have three of us in it is pretty good.''
The team had not had the chance to talk
much but they were feeling confident.
''We will be trying to win the three

Stephen also had success at the national
championships in Rotorua, reaching the
quarterfinals in the pairs and fours.
''We were hoping to get past the

ships in Invercargill last month.
