Lawrence coasts to twenty20 win
Outstanding Potter 86 not out seals victory over Blueys
Step on up Tony Potter.
He hit his Lawrence team to a
super twenty20 South Otago club
cricket final win against Blueys
Potter was outstanding, scoring
86 not out, which included eight
sixes and five fours, as his team
coasted to victory, scoring the 176
it needed off only 14 overs and
with five wickets in hand.
Mark Patterson was next best of
the Lawrence batsmen, scoring
25, with Sam Wyber making 22.
Blueys had Shaun Tauti to thank
for posting what seemed like a
competitive total after batting
Blueys got off to an awful start,
being six wickets down for just 20
runs at one stage before Tautua
arrived, blasting 10 sixes and three
fours in an innings of 104 not out.
Ryan Duffy was next best, and the
best bowling for Lawrence came
from Tony Omelvena, who took
five for 25.
In the semifinals, Lawrence
cruised into the final with a
10-wicket win over Kaitangata,
who scored 146 for five from their
Kevin Kruger led the way with 78
but his team's total was no
challenge at all for Lawrence, with
openers Mark Paterson (74 not
out) and Wil Young (67 not out)
sharing an unbroken opening
stand of 147.
In the other semifinal, Blueys
scored 214 for three wickets
against Clinton, with Nick Stuart
leading the way with 62 and
Jordan Anderson 49 not out.
In reply, Clinton were all out for
162, with Pat McKenna top scoring
Senior cricket 40-over games
were also played at the weekend,
with Milton posting a 100-run win
Milton scored 219 for seven
wickets, with Raymond Burleigh
making 83, Peter Grant 35 and
Ryan Moore 14.
Best bowling for Owaka came
from Cameron Burgess with 3-25
and Jamie Shaw 3-41. Owaka
never really got going, being
dismissed for 110, of which Steve
Clark made 35.
Kent Nurse took three for 42, Brad
Frost two for 26 and Jeremy Frost
two for 19 for the winners.
Men's interclub results
Kaitangata beat Milton Gold by
8-4. For Kaitangata, Peter Brooks
had two wins, with Stu Uren also
collecting two wins.
Kaka Point beat Owaka by 10-2,
with John Hurst and Ken Stephens
having two wins each.
Stirling and Milton Blue drew their
game 6-all, while Waihola and T
andC also drew 6-all and
Balclutha beat Finegand in
the other game.
