Upset win by Milton boost for team
Yee-ha: Riders followed farmland and forest out to Bull Creek, where they enjoyed riding along the sand in the

Round one of the South Otago
Cricket championship was played
on Saturday, with Milton and
Kaitangata scoring wins.
Milton proved they will be one of
the favourites when they upset
last season's winners Lawrence by
two wickets. Batting first,
Lawrence scored 129.
Two good scores held the innings
together, a 43 from Sam Wyber
and 28 from Bryce Rishworth.
Bowling for Milton, Kevin Nurse
bowled very well to capture four
for 42, and Peter Grant gave good
support with three for 24.
Milton batted well, with Bradley
Frost top scoring with 56, as
Milton scored 130 for eight
wickets, and a two-wicket victory.
It was a good innings from Frost,
who is also in the Otago Country
The only other batsman to make
runs was Kevin Nurse, who was 13
not out. Bowling for Lawrence, a
splendid effort by Sam Wyber saw
him capture four for 29.

At Owaka, the home team,
batting first, scored 75 all
out. Cameron Burgess (18)
and Jamie Shaw (10) were
the main contributors. Best
bowling for Kaitangata came
from Brad Storer with four
for 19, and Kevin Kruger two
Kaitangata replied with 76
for five wickets -- Jason
Young 33, Brad Storer 12 and
Michael Dustow also 12. Best
bowling for Owaka came
from Tony Miller with three
for 23 from seven overs.

South Otago Cricket draw
for Saturday: Kaitangata v
Blueys; Milton v Clinton;
Owaka v Lawrence.
Bowls South Otago teams
competed in the Pentangular
Series in Invercargill over the
weekend. South Otago had two
teams entered, one in the senior
and one in the development
section. The senior team
competed well and finished
second behind Southland. The
highlight from the senior team
was the performance by Robert
Wilson, who won all four singles
games he played, and beat some
outstanding players. Neville
Thomson skipped the men's fours
to three wins from four, and they
tipped top quality players. In the
development team, Stu Uren was
the hero, winning four of his five
The third round of the men's
interclub competition was played
Kaka Point scored a big win, when
they beat Waihola by 11-1 Balclutha
maintained at the top with a 10-2
win over Kaitangata. Clinton
scored an 8-4 win over Milton
Blue, while Lawrence beat Milton
Gold by 9-3. SOTC went down to
Finegand by 10-2, with the closest
game of the day going to Stirling
who scored a 7-5 win over Owaka.
Round four of men's midweek
section was played last Thursday.
Leaders Finegand continued on
their winning way, when they beat
Milton 21-13; Owaka came back to
form with a 25-16 win over
Balclutha White. Kaka Point Orcas
had a big win over Waihola by
25-15. Balclutha Red scored a
narrow win over Clinton by 19-16,
and K P Seals made it a double for
the seasiders with a 25-16 win over
Balclutha Women's Golf Club
